Medlinc was founded early 2008 by Gerda M.S. Heijting.
Gerda grew up in Holland. In 1987 she moved as a missionary’s wife to Kenya. Based in Nairobi she worked with refugees from Rwanda. Later on she got involved with the Nairobi Heart Clinic.
For the Nairobi based Heart to Heart Foundation she did fundraising.
1995 Gerda moved from Kenya to Namibia and it was then that she decided to start her own business as a way of serving the community in a more effective and efficient way thereby avoiding the inevitable bureaucracy and inflexibility of larger organizations. The company she founded was ‘Rainbow Enterprises Pty. Ltd’. The company specialised in first aid and trauma supplies. The company also assisted hospitals to purchase medical goods and equipment.
According to Gerda,
“From my experience I know that one does not always need brand new beds, but one may need other equipment that must be new. At certain goods one should not compromise. For this reason I am always looking for new, refurbished or used items. New is not always the best option. One should have a clear picture of the requirements and the available funds first before considering what to purchase”.
